If you don't have time to watch "Why We Fight" from my previous post, there's a shorter, much funnier movie on Google video that expresses the exact same sentiments:
Rob Newman's "A History of Oil".
It's a performance-art piece portraying - stay with me here - "...the first world war as an invasion of Iraq." It goes into explicit detail to propose that World War I was begun, not because of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, but because several nations wanted to control the flow of oil and natural gas from Iraq over the Berlin-Baghdad Railway.
I've only been able to find it on Google video, which means you can only watch it as a stream. The guy who wrote & performs it is brilliant (!!!), and an amazing showman. And it's filled with very nice touches: notice, for example, how the lighting in the theater is powered by people in the audience pedalling exercycles.
If you do watch it, I'm sure you'll agree that all depressing political exposés should at least be entertaining like this one. As opposed to the regular news, which lately has devolved into all entertainment and no exposé ...
